We recently took a trip to our local La Brea Bakery for some fresh-baked sourdough bread for our beet greens post. We hadn’t been since the remodel, and let us tell you, it’s magical. Continue reading

Memorial Day Weekend: Simply Grilling + Party Tips
Monday is Memorial Day and, while we honor this day of remembrance, we know that across the U.S., it has become common to hold backyard barbecues. Usually, these types of events could be considered danger zones for those of us watching what we eat. Continue reading
DIY: Painted Pots
We recently visited the flower market in downtown Los Angeles and hit the jackpot with some gorgeous succulents and flowers. Naturally, we needed somewhere to house all these great finds, so we picked up some classic terra cotta pots. They were looking a little, well, plain, so we thought we’d spruce them up a bit with a quick-and-easy DIY. The materials are pretty reasonably priced, and, fortunately, you don’t need much more than a little paint and some creativity.
Cinco de Mayo: Healthy Margaritas
Happy Cinco de Mayo, friends! While we’re aware that drinking while trying to lose weight is not the best recipe for success, it’s a holiday and we’re gonna have margaritas if we want to! The part about the Weight Watchers philosophy that makes it so realistic and sustainable is that you can have what you want (in moderation and within your allotted points, of course), as long as you’re aware of what you’re putting into your body and you budget accordingly. So, today, we have margs! Continue reading
Cinco de Mayo Boozy Shrimp Tacos
The calendar gods have smiled down on us this Cinco de Mayo by scheduling the holiday right on Taco Tuesday! In celebration, we made some tasty shrimp tacos. Continue reading
Are Beet Greens the New Kale?
We’ve heard a lot of talk in the health food world about beet greens lately; some even claim that they could become the new kale. While we’re skeptical of that (we love our kale!), we’re always looking for new ways diversify when it comes to ingredients. We decided to try them out and see what all the fuss it about. Continue reading
Smoothie Bowl
We love a quick-and-easy breakfast fix as much as the next busy bee, but sometimes, we don’t mind sacrificing a little time for the sake of a pretty meal. Smoothie bowls instantly became our favorite way to combine our love of healthy food with our urge to be creative. The absolute best part about smoothie bowls: the possibilities are endless. The flavor combinations could include any mixture of veggies and fruits your heart desires, as well as all the toppings you can imagine. Continue reading
Skinny Irish Coffee
Hello, readers! It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and what better way to combine our love of caffeine and boozy holidays than with a coffee and whiskey drink recipe? We decided to give this classic a slim makeover by stripping it down and making a healthier, all-natural whipped cream topping, thanks to a recipe from The View From Great Island. By using this fat-free version (at only 7 calories per tablespoon!), we were able to cut out the excess cream and sugar. Continue reading
Kombucha at Home
Making your own kombucha is not as hard as it may seem. With the help of some slimy science, you too can have delicious, carbonated tea with health benefits (some believe), including improved digestion and strengthening the immune system. As much as we adore our local kombucha suppliers, we thought we would try our hand at a batch. (Important note!: Please be sure to brew in very sanitary conditions. Improper preparation could lead to contamination by possibly harmful bacteria.) Continue reading
